Southeast QLD Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Large Hail, Heavy Rain, Destructive Winds | | Source: Bureau of Meteorology For people in the LOGAN CITY, IPSWICH CITY, SCENIC RIM and parts of the BRISBANE CITY, GOLD COAST CITY, LOCKYER VALLEY and SOMERSET Council Areas. Issued at 2:49 pm Monday, 6 January 2014. The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 2:50 pm, very dangerous thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Laidley and the McPherson Range. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east. Very dangerous thunderstorms are forecast to affect Marburg by 3:20 pm and Ipswich and Coolangatta by 3:50 pm. Other severe thunderstorms were located near Maroon Dam and Mount Barney. They are forecast to affect Kooralbyn by 3:20 pm and Little Nerang Dam by 3:50 pm. Destructive winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones are likely. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
