after publishing an article on Carl Williams.
The Victorian Director of Public Prosecutions is investigating Who magazine for publishing in an article about Carl Williams's life and death containing highly prejudicial information that has been suppressed by the courts.
Who is being investigated for breaching suppression orders and possible contempt of court over the magazine's ''Death of a gangster'' cover story in its current edition, which includes the front-page precede ''Who really killed Carl Williams?''
The article mentions an upcoming trial that cannot be published for legal reasons and which remains the subject of multiple suppression orders despite Williams's death.
''The Director of Public Prosecutions has confirmed that he is concerned about certain aspects of an article that has appeared in this week's Who magazine and is considering what action he will take about the publication,'' a spokeswoman said yesterday.
The magazine's editor, Nicky Briger, was unavailable for comment.
Retailers in Victoria were told on Tuesday to remove the magazine from sale.
Williams was bludgeoned to death with the stem of an exercise bike inside the Barwon Prison maximum security division on April 19 as he sat reading a newspaper. An inmate has been charged with murder.
