Southeast QLD Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Damaging Winds

For people in the LOCKYER VALLEY, IPSWICH CITY, SCENIC RIM and parts of the BRISBANE CITY, LOGAN CITY, SOUTHERN DOWNS, SOMERSET and TOOWOOMBA Council Areas.

Issued at 8:30 pm Friday, 1 February 2013.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 8:25 pm, a line of severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near the New South Wales border near Killarney and extending north to near Toowoomba. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east. They are forecast to affect Gatton, Maryvale, Cunninghams Gap and Mulgowie by 8:55 pm and Boonah, Laidley, the area south of Esk and Lowood by 9:25 pm.

Damaging winds are likely.

Emergency Management Queensland advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
