Just over a week before the iPad's official local debut, the Australian App Store has now gone live on the device.
While iPad apps have been available via iTunes on a Mac or PC since the iPad went on sale in the US, only content from the US store has been available on the iPad itself, until now.
At this stage, it appears Apple's own iWork apps – Keynote, Pages, Numbers – are still unavailable to international customers either on an iPad or iTunes on a Mac.
The store is mainly featuring iPhone apps, as the desktop version does currently. However, the 'Top Charts' page appears to show the top iPad apps downloaded from the Australian store.
Anyone who has been juggling a mixture of Australian and US sourced apps can now update them directly on their iPad. Likewise, it's now possible to purchase apps on the iPad with Australian credit rather than having to top up a US account.
The iBookstore currently displays no content for Australian accounts (which isn't entirely surprising, given you still need a US account to install the iBooks app).
Perhaps flicking this switch is the reason I've had to accept new terms and conditions on the iTunes store a number of times today.
