PACIFIC Island communities will join with Ipswich City Council to present the inaugural Celebrate Pasifika Festival at Evan Marginson Park, Goodna, on June 5 from 10am-3pm.

Event stage manager Jackie Toeleiu said the festival would feature traditional dance demonstrations, church choirs, bands and performances by students from Bundamba State Secondary College and Inala State School.

"The day aims to bring the Pacific Islander community together,'' she said.

"There will be about 13 performance acts as well as workshops such as leimaking and basket weaving.''

Ms Toeleiu said festival-goers would be able to enjoy traditional Pacific Island food, including the Cook Islands dish umu, which was cooked underground.

The Queensland Reds will also attend the festival to host skills development workshops and clinics.
