AUSTRALIANS GET BEHIND QUEENSLANDERS HIT BY FLOODS WITH $10M

Premier Anna Bligh has thanked Australians who have contributed what they can to Queenslanders hit by devastating floods.

The Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal now stands at $10.4 million thanks to the generous donations of individual Australians, governments and multinational companies.

Cricket Australia, the Northern Territory Government, Rio Tinto and the Brisbane International Tennis Tournament have all come on board today to help out Queenslanders.

"The response from the Australian community has been truly inspiring."

"On behalf of Queenslanders, I offer my heartfelt thanks for the generous donations and offers of help that have rushed in from across the nation."

"Donations, big and small, have helped us raise more than $10 million to help the victims of this devastating natural disaster get back on their feet."

The Premier welcomed the announcement that the Cricket Australia will dedicate the Australia v England One Day International match at the Gabba on 30 January to Queensland flood victims.

The Premier said the Brisbane International will also promote the Disaster Relief Appeal throughout the Tournament.

"Thank you to Australia's Sam Stosur and American Andy Roddick for their pledge of $100 per ace they serve at the Brisbane International."

The funds raised through the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal will be managed and distributed by the Red Cross.

"The Red Cross will ensure these funds go to those Queenslanders who need assistance above and beyond that which governments provide."

"The Red Cross is doing an amazing job on the ground across our state."

"You can literally see the relief on the face of people as they walk into the arms of a Red Cross volunteer in an evacuation centre."
