Townsville Councillor Natalie Marr says no damage after earthquake

Townsville councillor Natalie Marr says there's been no reported damage following an earthquake which struck the north Queensland city.

Ms Marr says her windows rattled and her young daughter leapt into arms when the earthquake struck around 3.40pm.

Ms MARR says she has been listening to the local radio for updates and has heard people as for north as Bowen calling the station saying they felt the earthquake.

There's been a five-point-two magnitude earthquake in far northern Queensland with its impact felt in Mackay and other towns.

The US Geological Survey says the quake happened at about half-past three this afternoon and had its centre 120 kilometres southeast of Townsville ten kilometres below the surface.
